George Kowatic Wins First-Ever Roaring Knob Feature in High Gear Speed Shop FASTRAK Late Models; Vic Vandergrift Earns Two Modified Features; Bendishaw, Smith, Seiler and Settle All Repeat Winners.

MARKLEYSBURG, PA (August 11, 2012) Winning his first-ever Roaring Knob Motorsports Complex feature was George Kowatic, of Aliquippa, PA, who won the High Gear Speed Shop FASTRAK Late Model feature. Vic Vandergrift won two Modified features as he also claimed the make-up from July 14.  Jim Bendishaw, Jr. (Krause Electric Street Stocks) and Steve Settle (Newt’s York Bar Roadrunners) both won their sixth features of 2012. Mark Seiler won the make-up feature for the Newt’s York Bar Roadrunners while Shawn Smith earned win number five in the Ft. Necessity Garage Chargers. The Super Late Models had the night off.

Fairmont, WV’s Vic Vandergrift led flag-to-flag in the 15-lap Modified feature that was a make-up from July 14.  Vandergrift kept Kevin Putman a half straight behind in earning his second win of the season. Following Putman was Denny Nakutis, Bruce Dreistadt and Larry Atha.

A see-saw battle in the Newt’s York Bar Roadrunner make-up found Mark Seiler coming out on top for his second checker of 2012. Seiler and Paul Koffler, Jr. exchanged the lead before Seiler took over on lap eight. Steve Settle was able to take second in the closing laps with Koffler third over Steve Frazier and Allen Fortney.

Shawn Smith took off from his pole starting spot in the 12-lap Ft. Necessity Garage Charger feature.  The Confluence, PA driver checked out and won by a straightaway on his way to a division leading fifth win. Cody Colflesh, JT Baird, Kyle Burkholder, Kenny Burkholder, CJ Nicola, Bradley Nesline, Charlie Bittinger, Eric Collins (Jenkins #44) and Eric Miller completed the top ten. Smith and Kenny Burkholder won the heats.

The High Gear Speed Shop saw a first time winner in George Kowatic. Troy Shields looked to be on his way to the win leading the first 10 laps before Kowatic made the winning pass.  Kowatic then built up a lead only to see a yellow fly on lap 16. With four to go this put six-time winner Nolan Dalton on his back bumper. Dalton gave it his all in attempting to pass, but Kowatic was too strong to over come and won for the first time at Roaring Knob.  Behind Kowatic and Dalton at the finish were Shields, Mike Lewis, Russell Baird, Jr., Jeff Compton, Jeff Broniszewski, Andrew Wylie, Lou Jacoby and Stanley Spooner.  Baird and Dalton claimed heat wins.

One of the best features of the night belonged to the Krause Electric Street Stocks. Ryan Newman was looking for his first win and led the first four laps battling with Jim Bendishaw, Jr.  The pair raced cleanly side by side when Bendishaw got by. Newman never gave up tailing Bendishaw until Todd Dennis got by. A caution flew with three to go setting up a three lap war between the top two winners in the class.  Bendishaw held off Dennis for his sixth checkered flag. Rounding out the top ten were Dennis, Newman, Marty Spade, Jr., Mike Durtisky (from 11th), Scott Bittinger, Ron Howard, Jim Zufall, Bob Miller and Charlie McClain.  Heats were won by Jason Gibbs and Dennis.

Vic Vandergrift made it a clean sweep in winning the regular Modified feature. Vandergrift again led green to checker this time with some pressure from Denny Perigo.  Perigo would have to settle for second over Bruce Dreistadt, Bill Yohe, Larry Atah, Deana Groves, Kevin Putman, Nick Wilson and Denny Nakutis.  Perigo won the lone heat.

In the final feature of the evening West Leisenring’s Steve Settle led all 12-lap to score his sixth feature win in the Newt’s York Bar Roadrunners. Settle and Paul Koffler, Jr. went back and forth the first seven lap. Settle was able to pull away until Randy Murphy took over the runner-up spot.  Murphy kept him in striking distance but came up short for second. Koffler, Mark Seiler, Steve Frazier, David Friend, Jr., Todd Detrick, Neal Bauer, Jr., Allen Fortney and Cindy Rhodes were the top ten.  Winning the heats were Koffler and Seiler.

Round two of the Powder Puffs saw Rose Perigo (Modifieds), Mindy Miller (Street Stocks), Barb Neratka (Chargers) and Marissa Davis (Roadrunners) all taking home wins.
