Brothers Jared and Jacob Hawkins Earn Victories at Roaring Knob Motorsports Complex; Mike Duritsky Gets First Win of 2012; Cossell, Burkholder & Settle Repeat.

MARKLEYSBURG, PA (August 25, 2012) Brothers Jared and Jacob Hawkins each picked up a win Saturday night at Roaring Knob Motorsports Complex. Jared won the Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic Super Late Model feature while Jacob won his first in the Modifieds. Mike Duritsky won his first Krause Electric Street Stock feature this season while Bobby Cossell (High Gear Speed Shop FASTRAK Late Models) and Kenny Burkholder (Ft. Necessity Garage Chargers) were repeat winners. The 20-lap Newt’s York Bar Roadrunner main went to Steve Settle and Jim Bendishaw, Jr. won the make-up feature for the Krause Electric Street Stocks.

From the start of the make-up feature for the Krause Electric Street Stocks, Todd Dennis and Jim Bendishaw, Jr. waged a battle for the top spot. Dennis led the first four laps before Bendishaw muscled by and the Uniontown driver drove to his division leading seventh feature win. Completing the top ten were Todd Dennis, Marty Spade, Jr., Bob Nelson, Mike Durtisky, Bob Miller, Jason Gibbs, Charlie McClain, Michael Duritsky and Barry Faris.

Ft. Necessity Garage heat winners Kenny Burkholder and Bradley Nesline started in the second row of the 12-lap feature event.  When the green dropped pole sitter JT Baird led the way. Baird’s lead was short lived as Burkholder, from Mill Run, grabbed the top spot on lap two and then kept JT Baird behind him to win his fifth checker. Cody Colfelsh came from eighth to get third over Bradley Nesline, Justin Howell, CJ Nicola, Brad Jenkins, Kyle Burkholder, Eric Miller and Allen Fortney.

The Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic Super Late Models was all Fairmont, WV’s Jared Hawkins. Hawkins shot from his third starting hole and took the lead by the time they hit the back straight. From there Hawkins built up a straight-away lead in winning his fourth Roaring Knob A-Main and second win on the weekend after his win at Elkins the night before. Matt Cosner continues to impress with a second place finish ahead of John Garvin, Scott Rhodes, Tim Senic, Billy Holbert, Cody Hardesty, Glenn Elliott, LC Powers and Bob Gordon. Cosner and Rhodes were heat winners.

On tap for the Newt’s York Bar Roadrunners it was a 20-lap special. The race went non-stop and when the checker flew it was West Leisenring’s Steve Settle on the victory podium for the seventh time this season. Randy Murphy passed Paul Koffler, Jr. for second at the line. Donald Wilson, Cindy Rhodes, Jeremy Hill, Todd Detrick, Ed Detrick and Clark Ligenfield rounded out the field. Settle and Koffler won the two heats.

When Nolan Dalton starts on the front row in the High Gear Speed Shop FASTRAK feature most considered the race over. Dalton took off at the drop of the green and was running away with the 20-lap event. Contact with a lapped car on lap 16 gave second place Bobby Cossell, of Connellsville, the break he needed.  Cossell sped by and also won his second feature of the weekend and second at Roaring Knob. Louie Krushansky drove from eighth to earn second over Mike Lewis, Dalton, Michael Lake, Russell Baird, Jr., John Over, Jeff Compton, Chris Angelicchio and Troy Shields. Winning the heats were Baird and Dalton.

Heat winner Jacob Hawkins was looking to join his older brother in victory lane for the night.  Hawkins started outside of the front row for the 15-lap Modified feature.  Hawkins, driving the Throw’ N Dirt house car, had his hands full with last week’s winner Nick Cramer. Cramer never let Hawkins breath making several attempts to get by. At the finish Hawkins won his first Modified feature at the Knob over Cramer, Bruce Dreistadt, Vic Vandergrift, Denny Nakutis, Mike Errett, Larry Athay, Bill Yohe and Nick Wilson.

Wrapping up the night’s racing was the Krause Electric Street Stocks for their second feature of the night. Scott Bittinger went from third on the opening lap to take the lead. Bittinger was out front for five laps before a very hungry Mike Duritsky passed him. Duritsky, winless at the Knob this season, toured the oval getting pressure from Jim Bendishaw, Jr.  Duritsky was flawless and never made a mistake in winning his first of 2012. Bendishaw settled for second over Bittinger, Todd Dennis, Bob Nelson, Jim Byers, Marty Spade, Jr., Jason Gibbs, Barry Faris and Charlie McClain. Heats went to Spade and Bendishaw.
