MARKLEYSBURG, PA (September 4, 2010) Troy Shields picked up his first-ever Brooks Automotive Group FASTRAK Late Model feature Saturday night at Roaring Knob Motorsports Complex while 15-year-old JT Baird picked up his career first feature in the TC Race Car Parts Chargers.
Taking repeat wins were Keith Jackson (Jack's Recycling Super Late Models), Nolan Dalton (Melvin's Automatic Transmission Center Modifieds) and Todd Dennis (Bobby Lake Motorsports Street Stocks).
Ken Herman and Troy Shields led the 23 car field of Brooks Automotive Group FASTRAK Late Models to the green. Shields took the lead at the drop of the green being chased by Herman and three-time winner John Over. Over quickly got around Herman and applied heavy pressure to Shields. Lap after lap the Over made and attempt to power by but Shields held him off. A restart with two laps to go saw Over complete the pass only to have the yellow fly. This put Shields back out front. On the next restart Shields stayed low and Over clipped the inside turn one wall allowing Shields to pull away and take his first win since July 16, 2005. Over held on for second followed by Garry Sisson, Cody Hardesty and Robbie Marhefka. Sixth through tenth were Rick Strickler, Herman, Russell Baird, Jr., Ray Johnson and Ricky Meglaye. Over, Shields and Herman were all preliminary winners.
The 12-lap TC Race Car Parts Charger feature produce a career first win for Uniontown's JT Baird. Baird used his outside front row starting spot to grab the lead after a brief battle with Shawn Smith. Smith pursued Baird all twelve laps but could not get by. The teenager looked smooth and poised taking the checkered flag for the first time in his career.
Smith finished second ahead of Jason Gibbs, Brad Jenkins, Justin Howell, Ed Vogel, CJ Nicola, Donnie Walters, Eric Miller and Marty Spade, Jr.
Smith and Baird were the heat winners.
The start of the 25-lap Jack's Recycling Super Late Model feature found Odenton, MD's Keith Jackson at the point. Jackson looked strong with his new Russell Baker Racing Engine under the hood. Billy Holbert ran second and at one point was closing in on Jackson when the left rear tire blew on the #7. Bob Gordon then took up the chase but Jackson proved too strong as he drove home to his fifth win of the season. Mason Zeigler just nipped Gordon at the line for second. Ron Delano, Jr. came from a spin to take fourth over LC Powers. Mel Minnick, Jr. (the 2010 SLM Champion), Greg Gellner, Donnie Dotson, Matt Cosner and Jeff Ferguson completed the top ten. Heat wins went to Jackson and Holbert.
In the best feature of the night, Newell's Todd Dennis continued his fantastic year taking his tenth win of 2010 in the Bobby Lake Motorsports Street Stocks. Jim Bendishaw, Jr. was the initial leader until he pitted under caution handing the lead over to Ryan Newman.
Newman led lap after lap looking for his first win in the class and held off Bob Nelson and Dennis for ten laps. With just two to go Dennis made a run out of turn four to take the lead. Newman had his best finish for second followed by Nelson, Joe Wrona, Jim Byers, Charlie McClain, Bob Miller, Matt Franks, Barry Faris and Lee Mansberry. Heat winners were Bendishaw and Dennis.
Nolan Dalton was the class of the field as he drove off and hid while winning his third Melvin's Automatic Transmission Center Modified feature event. Darren Tarabori made a five hour trip from Galeton, PA to finish second in his six-cylinder Modified. Nick Cramer, Nathan Baker, Bruce Dreistadt, Larry Atha and Dennis Perigo filled out the slim field of cars. Dalton also won the lone heat.
The FWD 4 Cylinders made their third appearance of the season. Taking his second win in the 15-lap event was Jeff Dillinger. Following Dillinger across the stripe were Rob Prinkey, Greg Staggers, Mark Ohler, Todd Detrick, Dennis Glessner, Dustin Detrick and Steve Settle.
Dilllinger won the only heat.
Congratulations to the 2010 Point Champions. Mel Minnick, Jr. (Jack's Recycling Super Late Models), John Over (Brooks Automotive Group FASTRAK Late Models), Vic Vandergrift (Melvin's Automatic Transmission Center Modifieds), Jim Bendishaw, Jr. (Bobby Lake Motorsports Street Stocks) and Marty Spade, Jr. (TC Race Car Parts Chargers).
