Sep 11 2011 - JARED MILEY IS THE 2011 KING OF THE KNOB

Jared Miley Triumphant In 14th Annual King of the Knob at Roaring Knob Motorsports Park
MARKLEYSBURG, PA (September 10, 2011) Jared Miley, of South Park, PA, won his first-ever checkered flag Saturday night at Roaring Knob Motorsports Complex.  Miley’s win came in the fourteenth running of the “King of the Knob” for Super Late Models.  The 51-lap event was co-sanctioned by the UFo and Three State Flyers Series and paid the winner $5000. Rick Strickler (Krause Electric FASTRAK Late Models), Jim Bendishaw, Jr. (TC Race Car Parts Street Stocks), Marty Spade, Jr. (Ft. Necessity Garage Chargers) and Wes McDaniels (Roadrunners) all scored feature wins.  Jared Hawkins won the August 27th make-up feature for the American Racer Tire Super Late Models.
The 14th running of the King of the Knob enters the record books as another exciting show. At the end of the 51 lapper  Jared Miley scored his first-ever win at Roaring Knob.  DJ Cline took the initial lead at the drop of the green.  Miley passed him on lap two for the lead.  Devin Friese got around Cline for second on lap nine.  Friese made his move on a lap 12 restart and took the lead from Miley.  Friese’s lead was short lived when Miley retook the top spot on lap 16. While Miley lead the battle, racing in his rearview mirror was fun to watch.  Friese, Covert (from 11th) and Jared Hawkins were dicing it out for the runnerup spot. Covert masterfully worked his way into contention and took the second spot on lap 25.  He moved in and challenged Miley for the lead. As they battled Hawkins also joined in as did Friese. Miley had his hands full but never skipped a beat out front.
The final caution appeared on lap 48. When the green dropped Hawkins took advantage of a rare Covert mistake to take second and immediately caught the high flying Miley.  Hawkins, fresh off his big wins last week at Tyler County, threw all he had at Miley but came up a little short.  Miley parked the #H1 in victory lane for the first time at Roaring Knob and added his name to the impressive list of drivers who have been crowned “King of the Knob”. Hawkins settled for second followed by Jason Covert, Devin Friese, Jeremy Miller, who came from the tail after a spin, Corey Conley (from 20th), Butch McGill, Mason Zeigler, Danny Mitchell (from 19th) and Jerry Bard.  Preliminary winners were Miley, McGill, Jamie Lathrom and Tim Senic.  Greg Fetters and Ron Delano shared B-Main checkers.
In the make-up 25-lap American Racer Tire Super Late Model feature from August 27, it was all Jared Hawkins.  Hawkins started on the pole and was never seen again.  The Fairmont, WV driver earned his second feature win of 2011 at the Knob and lapped all but the top six.  Billy Holbert was second over Mason Zeigler, Scott Rhodes, Bob Gordon, LC Powers, Ron Delano, Jr., Richard Frazier, Mark Booth and Chuck Clise. Heat winners from August 27 were Gordon, Hawkins and Ziegler.
The Krause Electric FASTRAK Late Models were also on the night’s card.  Billy Stile III took the lead at the drop of the green looking for his first win of the year.  Stile led the first 13 laps until Morgantown, WV driver Rick Strickler made his winning pass.  Strickler then proceeded to build up a good lead while Derek Doll stormed his way from 20th to grab the runnerup spot on lap 16.  Doll closed the gap but ran out of time as Strickler won his second feature of the year.  Rounding out the top ten were Doll, Ryan Montgomery, John Over, Billy Stile III, Nico Dabecco, Troy Shields, Ricky Meglaye, Mike Opalinski and Andrew Wylie.  Heat winners included Strickler, Montgomery and Stile.
Uniontown’s Jimmy Bendishaw, Jr. sat in victory lane for the fifth time this season in the 15-lap TC Race Car Parts Street Stock main event.  Bendishaw trailed leader Bob Neratka for eleven laps before making the winning move.  Todd Dennis followed into second one lap later but could not muster the extra power to pass Bendishaw.  Behind Bendishaw and Dennis were Bob Nelson, Ryan Newman, John Redshaw, Chris Lucy, Tom Newman, Charlie McClain, Barry Faris and Ben Policz.  Dennis and Bendishaw were also the heat winners.
Marty Spade, Jr. gave the Ford fans some excitement in winning his sixth Ft. Necessity Garage 12-lap feature.  Spade had to pass leader JT Baird on lap six before earning the win.  Baird held on for second over Brad Jenkins, Kyle Burkholder, Kenny Burkholder, CJ Nicola, Cody Colflesh, Bus Matthews, Bob Matthews and Eric Miller.  Heats were won by Spade and Baird.
The 10-lap Roadrunner feature saw a new winner as Wes McDaniel took the heat and feature.  McDaniels, making his first visit to Roaring Knob, came all the way from Littlestown, PA.  He is a top runner at the Trail-Way Speedway in Hanover, PA.  The 19-year-old driver, won in a car owned by his girlfriend, beat out six time winner Steve Settle, Todd Detrick, Jason Myers and Allen Fortney.
The 2011 track champions were also crowned Saturday night. Congratulations to Scott Rhodes in earning his first Roaring Knob track championship in the American Racer Tire Super Late Models.  Rhodes won three features on his way to securing the crown.  John Over won his second straight Krause Electric FASTRAK Late Model championship. Over won two A-Mains this year. Todd Dennis racked up eight feature wins on his way to earning another point title in the TC Race Car Parts Street Stocks.  Kenny Burkholder won his second FT. Necessity Garage point championship while earning a season best six feature wins. Steve Settle also earned six checkers in taking the first-ever point championship crowned at Roaring Knob for the 4 Cylinder Roadrunners.  Last week Bruce Dreistadt won a career first championship in the AMRA Modifieds.
