Apr 08 2012 - OPENING NIGHT AT ROARING KNOB

MARKLEYSBURG, PA (April 7, 2012) Roaring Knob Motorsports Complex saw some familiar names, and one first timer, in victory lane on opening points night Saturday.  Tim Senic was victorious in the Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic Super Late Models, Deana Groves scored the Modified feature, Todd Dennis was number one in the Krause Electric Street Stocks, Kenny Burkholder topped the Ft. Necessity Garage Charger and Paul Koffler, Jr. won the Newt’s York Bar Roadrunners.  Rick Singleton made the three hour tow from Huntingdon worth while winning his first High Gear Speed Shop FASTRAK Late Model Feature.

Newell’s Todd Dennis shot out from his second row starting spot to lead all 15 laps of the Krause Electric Street Stock feature.  Dennis had stiff competition from EJ Rozak, who was going for the lead on lap 9, only to see the caution fly.  Two laps later Rozak pushed up the track with problems and eighth starting Bob Nelson took up the chase but came up short. Dennis was followed across the stripe by Nelson, Mike Duritsky (from 14th), Jim Byers, Marty Spade, Jr., Jim Bendishaw, Jr., Scott Bittinger, Jason Gibbs, Lee Mansberry and Rozak.  Bendishaw and Dennis won the heats.

The 25-lap Hoosier Tire Mid Atlantic Late Model feature saw Mason Zeigler the initial leader.  Zeigler looked fast holding off Tim Senic and Jared Hawkins.  The three drivers were in a fierce battle for the top spot.  Hawkins used the high line trying to get the lead before Elkins, WV’s Senic quietly slipped by on the inside in turn two to take the lead on lap 18.  Senic then opened up a little space to cruise to his first win of the season.  Hawkins came home second over Devin Friese, Zeigler, LC Powers, Matt Cosner, Ken Schaltenbrand, Clate Copeman, Billy Holbert and Bob Gordon.  Heats were won by Gordon and Zeigler.

Kenny Burkholder, out of Mill Run, led all 12 laps of the Ft. Necessity Garage Charger feature for his first win this year.  Cody Colflesh, Kyle Burkholder, Ed Vogel, Brad Jenkins, Justin Howell, CJ Nicola, Ross Higbee, Eric Miller and Corey Faris completed the top ten.  Kyle Burkholder and Ed Vogel were the heat winners.

It looked like Mike Lewis was going to win his third career High Gear Speed Shop FASTRAK Late Model feature as he lead the first 19 laps.  On the final lap something broke in the right front suspension coming out of turn two.  Lewis went into the final two turns but couldn’t steer the car pushing up the track and allowing second place runner Rick Singleton to shoot by coming out of turn four to take the win. It was Singleton’s first win in a crate late model and this was only his second time at Roaring Knob.  Lewis limped home a disappointed second followed by Nolan Dalton, John Over, Dan Angelicchio, Billy Stile III, Ricky Meglaye, Troy Shields, Ryan Montgomery and Brad Kling.  Scoring heat wins were Bobby Cossell and John Over.

Andrew Pluta, Jr. shot into the lead at the drop of the green in the Newt’s York Bar Roadrunners. Pluta led two laps before Paul Koffler, Jr., of West Leisenring, passed him and led the final ten laps for the win. Completing the top ten were Mark Seiler, Steve Settle, Ron Povlik, Todd Detrick, Mike Phillipson, Cindy Rhodes, Jeremy Hill, Allen Fortney and Joe Datko.  Settle and Detrick were heat winners.

The final feature of the night was the 15-lap Modified feature.  Kevin Miller led the opening lap until Morgantown, WV driver Deana Groves made the winning pass.  Groves was never challenged to take the checkered flag over Josh Cramer, Miller, Tom Martineck, Vic Vandergrift, Larry Atha, Bill Yohe, Denny Nakutis and Bob Bennett.  Groves won the lone heat.
