FASTRAK NE TOURING SERIES RETURNS TO ROARING KNOB FRIDAY & JOINS UP WITH THE LUCAS OIL LATE MODELS
By Mike Leone

April 17, 2012 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

(Markleysburg, PA)…After a very successful 2012 season opener at Roaring Knob Motorsports Complex earlier this month that attracted 47 race teams from all over the Northeast, the Sweeney Chevrolet Buick GMC Pace Performance FASTRAK Northeast Late Model Touring Series will resume its season this Friday night (April 20) right back at Roaring Knob. The scenic Markleysburg, Pa. oval will host race #2 of 25 on the 2012 slate.

Race fans will have a real treat as it'll be a doubleheader of Late Model action as FASTRAK joins the Lucas Oil Dirt Late Model Series for the second straight year. Last year's event played in front of the largest crowd in the history of Roaring Knob and another great crowd should be on hand for Friday's action as the early report calls for sunshine and temps in the mid 70s.

"We're excited to get back to racing Friday," expressed sixth year Northeast Co-Director Vicki Emig. "We along with Roaring Knob promoter Rick Jones were very pleased with how the inaugural Super Nationals turned out despite battling with rain or the forecast of rain for three days. Rick has really increased his participation and support of the FASTRAK Series this season. Last year was a great event to be part of the inaugural Lucas Oil show at the Knob and we're thrilled to again be part of this event. Anytime we can showcase our Series with national touring series it's a positive for FASTRAK."

Twenty-two year-old Max Blair of Centerville, Pa. began his campaign for his fourth Northeast Touring Series title in five seasons when he won the April 1 $3,000 event holding off Super Late Model standouts Sammy Stile and David Scott. Blair not only has put himself atop the driver and owner point standings for the new year, but also the "Super Nationals" points, which will resume October 19-20 for "Super Nationals II".

Friday's 25-lap feature will pay $1,200 to-win and will also include the "Wheelman" Bonus Event Challenge Series for non-qualifiers. Jason Genco won his third career non-qualifier event at the "Super Nationals" and leads those point standings.

Of course all of the great contingency programs will be in full force include the K&N "Cold Air Induction Dash" and fan giveaway, the Brake Man "Tough Brake of the Night", Genesis Shocks "Top Dog of the Night", Precise Racing Products "Pedal Down" Hard Charger, and the Utsinger's Towing Hoosier Tire Giveaway. Decal packages will be available on Friday for these programs.

"We feel like we have the best core of racers to ever follow our Touring Series," stated sixth year Northeast Co-Director Mike Leone. "Most of our regulars from 2011 are returning full-time and we have several new racers that expect to follow the Series in 2012. Guys like Chad Ruhlman, Will Thomas, Billy Henry, Bobby Rohrer, Darren Peters, Jason Knowles, Tim Sears, Jr., and others are really going to add to the quality of our fields. Thirty-one of the 47 cars at the opening event were Touring members and we have another 14 that have joined that weren't at the opener."

Six Northeast Touring Series events have been run all-time at Roaring Knob. Bobby Powell won the inaugural event on June 26, 2009. Mike Pegher, Jr. began a three race win streak on June 26, 2010 winning that event, the "Fall Fest" on October 8, 2010, and then the show with the Lucas Oil Late Models on April 30, 2011. Pegher didn't compete in last year's Touring Series finale to prep for the next night's Grand Nationals, while Robbie Blair captured the victory. Max Blair won his first Touring race at Roaring Knob earlier this month. The elder Blair also won Night 2 of the Grand Nationals at Roaring Knob in 2010.

There have been 74 Northeast Touring Series races contested with 30 different winners all-time. Mike Pegher, Jr. and Max Blair are tied with 13 followed by Dick Barton, Bobby Powell, John Lacki, and David Scott with four, Steve Dixon and Josh Holtgraver at three, Alan Dellinger, Dan Angelicchio, Joe Martin, and Robbie Blair with two, and Todd Andrews, Kyle Drum, Frank Guidace, Butch Lambert, Carl McKinney, Dennis Lunger, Jr., Tom Snyder, Jr., Chris Meadows, Jim Frank, Mike Blose, Jonathan Davenport, Gary Knollinger, Dusty Hamrick, Bud Watson, Russell King, George Kowatic, Ryan Montgomery, and Wayne Robertson with one victory.
