ROARING KNOB MOTORSPORTS COMPLEX LATE MODEL RULES AND REGULATIONS:

Please note the following important rule changes for the 2008 racing season.

Please note this is a maximum 362 CID steel block, specific cylider head division. See all appropriate rules below.

Built motor cars will weigh 2450 lbs. with driver after the race.

Crate motor cars using the GM604 motor will weigh 2350 lbs. with driver after the race.

Crate motor cars using the GM602 motor will weigh 2300 lbs. with driver after the race.

All cars must have the weight they are required to be on the hood of the car for officials to see.

Built motor cars must run an MSD6 or MDS6AL Ignition box with a 7000 RPM chip. Box must be mounted so it is out of reach of the driver but readily accessible to officials. The track will check chips and will randomly change chips using the tracks in place of competitors.

Shocks with remote reservoirs will not be allowed.

Built motor cars will run a maximum of 8 inch by 72 inch rear spoiler and a maximum of 36 inch rear deck height.

Crate motor cars will be allowed a maximum of 10 inch by 72 inch rear spoiler and a maximum of 38 inch rear deck height.

Other rules with clarifications or changes are highlighted in below rules.

 

A. ELIGIBLE MODELS: This division is limited to 1990 through present American manufactured stock car bodies.

B. BODIES:

REFER TO DRAWINGS AT THE END OF RULES FOR REFERENCING MEASUREMENTS

1. Nose and roof must match body style.

2. All cars must have a minimum of 1-1/2" roll at top of fenders, doors and quarter panels.

3. Floor boards and fire wall must cover the driver’s area and be constructed to provide maximum safety.

4. Drivers seat must remain in the same general area as the original equipment location.

5. Windshield screen or bars are mandatory.

6. Neatly painted numbers at least 18" high and 3" wide are required on each side of the car and roof.

7. Neatly painted numbers at least 3" high are required on the front nose piece and at least 6" high are required on the fuel cell in unobstructed view.

8. No fins or raised lips of any kind permitted anywhere, the entire length of car.

9. Body line must be a smooth even line from front to rear.

10. Rear deck height is a maximum of 36".for built motor cars and 38" for crate motor cars.

C. STOCK NOSE PIECES:

1. Must be made of molded type material.

2. Two piece nose must be fastened together in center, no spacers to gain width.

3. Must be mounted not to alter original shape.

4. No material may be removed from nose piece. No cutting from bottom, top or sides.

5. No adding to bottom at frontal area to achieve lower ground clearance.

6 Stock nose piece can extend no more than a maximum 46" from center of hub to farthest point extending forward.

7. Front fender flair's must be made of plastic and cannot alter the original shape of the nose piece. They cannot extend beyond front tire track width with wheels pointed straight, and must have collapsible support, no steel supports.

D. ROOF AND ROOF SUPPORTS:

1. Must be stock appearing and mounted level.

2. 45" minimum height from ground.

3. Must be mounted parallel to body and near center of car.

4. Minimum material 41" long by 48" wide - maximum 45" long by 54" wide.

5. No lips on rear of roof.

6. No flat or odd shaped roof.

7. All roof side panels must extend to edge of body and be flat and must be stock OEM size, and must be of same make and model of nose piece.

8. Any sun shields ( 4" maximum ) must be able to hinge for easy exiting.

9. Front roof supports must be 2" wide by 24" long, no more - no less.

10. If body style has rear side windows - roof sail post must be in stock location, if lexan is used for window appearance it must be used on both sides. Both sides must be closed or both sides open.

E. FRONT FENDERS AND HOOD:

1. Must be level and flat from left to right side of car.

2. Fenders can not gain height from rear to front of car.

3. No part of fender can be below outside body line.

F. DOORS:

1. At no point can door sides break in towards center of car.

G. QUARTER PANELS:

1. No offset quarter panels, except equal taper towards the center of the car.

2. Tire clearance from body must be at least 2". NO WHEEL SKIRTS!

3. At no point can quarter panel sides break in towards center of car.

H. INTERIOR:

1. Interior may be dropped to the middle of the car no more than 3" below the top of the doors and must be at least 12" below roll cage.

2. Interior must gradually taper up to the quarter panel height and be level for 32" from the rear of the quarter panel.

3. Interior must be fastened flush at the top of the doors and quarter panels, and may taper gradually towards the center of the car, not creating a lip effect, with a minimum of 8" taper.

4. Interior must run in a straight line from behind the driver seat to the rear spoiler.

5. If interior is flat through car, it must maintain a 12" clearance from roll cage for easy exiting from either side.

I. SPOILER:

1. Rear Spoiler must be manufactured of transparent material and be of adequate strength to lexan. Lexan is recommended.

2. Rear spoiler may be a maximum of 8" high, measured from deck to tip of spoiler and a maximum of 72" wide measured with tape flush against spoiler at all points from end to end. Sealed motors will follow the same guidelines but may be a maximum of 10" high.

3. Rear spoiler can not be suspended above deck to create a wing effect.

4. Spoiler must begin where quarter panels end. NO EXTENDED DECKS.

J. ROLL CAGE/ FRAMES:

1. Any full frame or stock appearing front frame section attached to a steel frame constructed of minimum of 2" by 2" rectangle or square tubing with a minimum of 8" circumference, reaching from the front sub frame to the rear end, and be a minimum of .083 wall thickness. No aluminum frames or front clips.

2. TUBE FRAME OPTION: The wheel base of cars must be constructed of a minimum 1-3/4" round tubing and must have a minimum of .083 wall thickness. All tube frames must use 4130 chrome moly steel in construction of frame.

3. 104" minimum wheel base, both sides.

4. Roll cage must be of 4 post design with drivers head rest and 4 bars left side and 3 bars right side and must extend into the door panels. All bars must be at least 1-1/2" diameter and minimum .083 wall thickness. Bars can and will be tested with a sonic meter by the track as desired. Roll cage must be welded to the frame. The halo must be above the drivers helmet. The cage must be gusseted at joints. The cage must be padded at any point the drivers head can contact, if you can imprint the padding with your finger when pushing on it, it is not proper padding.

K. SUSPENSION:

Any type suspension, no straight axles. No driver adjustable suspension devices.

Springs must be steel no composite materials.

Shocks must be aluminum or steel no remote reservoir type permitted.

L. REAR ENDS: Full Floater required. Quick changes are permitted. Drive shaft may be of aluminum or steel. DRIVE SHAFT MUST BE PAINTED WHITE. Drive shaft must have a 360 degree steel safety sling.

No open rear ends or operational limited slip type such as Gold Trac, Gleason, Diamond Trac etc. etc. No titanium axles.

M. FUEL & CARB & INTAKE MANIFOLD:

1. One four barrel carburetor, MAXIMUM 750 CFM or smaller with a maximum of 1-11/16ths base plate.Spacer plate not permitted except for crate motors. GM602 crate motor permitted a maximum  2" spacer plate. GM604 permitted a maximujm 1" spacer plate.

2. Gasoline or Alcohol, NO NITROUS OXIDE, NO PERFORMANCE ENHANCING ADDITIVES. GASOLINE CAN AND WILL BE TESTED, IF ILLEGAL ADDITIVES ARE FOUND, THERE WILL BE DISQUALIFICATION

3. Any intake manifold other than a smoke ram or tunnel ram. Intake height to be a maximum of eight inches (8") measured from the top of the carburetor bowl using a straight edge from the bowl to the #3 or #4 runner of the intake

N. FUEL SYSTEMS:

1. An approved fuel cell, maximum 32 gallon, must be securely mounted in the trunk area of the car inside a 20 gauge metal box supported by two 1/8" x 2" steel straps at the top and the bottom.

2. A sealed steel metal fire wall must be installed between the fuel cell and drivers compartment.

O. TRANSMISSION /CLUTCH /STARTER:

1. Manual transmissions must have an operational working clutch.

2. Transmission must have working forward and reverse gears and mount to the rear of the motor and lead to only one drive shaft.

3. Automatic transmissions are permitted but must be able to switch from forward to reverse with engine running no couplers or overdrives.

4. Transmissions must be aluminum or steel.

5. Must have a working starter.

P. ENGINES:

1. CHEVROLET - 362 CID MAXIMUM using any standard production steel 350 block and 350 crankshaft (3.48 or 3.50 stroke only permitted ) Aftermarket blocks are permitted as long as they are steel and meet and maintain all the specifications as those of the standard production block, maximum bore size is 4.060. No aluminum blocks permitted. Aftermarket steel crankshafts permitted for durability purposes. May only use the following cast iron cylinder heads - WORLD PRODUCTS PART NUMBERS 011150 or 011250 or  012150 or 012250 or 4266 or 4267 or BOW TIE HEAD #10131392 CASTING # 14011034 or part #12480034. You may also use BRODIX SPEC SP CH aluminum head.  The SPEC LOGO’S must be un-altered in both heads. Port Matching on the head intake runner is acceptable up to a maximum of 3/4 inch in from the intake manifold interface. The valve seat area can be cleaned up and blended no deeper than 3/4 inch from the seat. No additional hand or machine work of ports is permitted they must remain as advertised for volume and runner size etc. etc. except for port matching. Roller rockers permitted. Any solid steel rods permitted. Pistons must be flat top 3 ring. Flat tappet cams only. No mushroom lifters, standard diameter lifter only. Maximum 11.0:1 compression ratio. DRY SUMP PERMITTED - EXTERNAL OIL PUMP PERMITTED. NO TITANIUM ENGINE PARTS PERMITTED EXCEPT VALVE RETAINERS. 

2. FORD - 362 CID MAXIMUM using any standard production steel 351Windsor or SVO block and 351 crankshaft  3.50 stroke. Aftermarket blocks are permitted as long as they are steel and meet and maintain the same specifications as the standard production block, maximum bore is 4.060.  No aluminum blocks permitted. Aftermarket steel crankshafts are permitted for durability purposes. May only use the following cast iron cylinder heads- WORLD PRODUCTS #053040 or 053030 or FORD PART #M604EN351.You may also use BRODIX SPEC SP FO aluminum head. The SPEC logo’s must remain unaltered in the heads.  Port Matching on the head intake runner is acceptable up to a maximum of 3/4 inch in from the intake manifold interface. The valve seat area can be cleaned up and blended no deeper than 3/4 inch from the seat. No additional hand or machine work of ports is permitted they must remain as advertised for volume and runner size etc. etc. except for port matching.   Roller rockers permitted.  Pistons must be flat top 3 ring. Flat tappet cams only. No mushroom lifters, standard diameter only. Maximum 11.0:1 compression ratio. DRY SUMP PERMITTED - EXTERNAL OIL PUMP IS PERMITTED. NO TITANIUM ENGINE PARTS PERMITTED EXCEPT VALVE RETAINERS. 

3. CHRYSLER - 362 CID MAXIMUM. must use 340 OR 360 BLOCK ONLY. Aftermarket blocks are permitted as long as they are steel and meet and maintain the same specifications as the standard production block. No aluminum blocks permitted. Aftermarket steel crankshafts are permitted for durability purposes. May only use the following cylinder head - DODGE MOPAR W2 CURRENT DESIGN PART #P5249769 CASTING # 4532693.  You may also use BRODIX SPEC SP MO aluminum heads. The SPEC logo’s must remain unaltered in the heads.  Port Matching on the head intake runner is acceptable up to a maximum of 3/4 inch in from the intake manifold interface. The valve seat area can be cleaned up and blended no deeper than 3/4 inch from the seat. No additional hand or machine work of ports is permitted they must remain as advertised for volume and runner size etc. etc. except for port matching. Roller rockers permitted,. Any solid steel rods permitted.  Pistons must be flat top 3 ring. Flat tappet cams only. No mushroom lifters, standard diameter only. Maximum compression ratio 11.0:1. DRY SUMP PERMITTED - EXTERNAL OIL PUMP PERMITTED. NO TITANIUM ENGINE PARTS PERMITTED EXCEPT VALVE RETAINERS. 

4. SEALED MOTOR OPTION - GM part# 88958604  or GM part# 88958602  only permitted. All engines come from the factory sealed by GM with non removal sealing bolts. Any tampering or removal of these bolts will result in immediate disqualification. All sealed engines must remain as manufactured by GM. All parts must remain the GM part numbers only that were in the motor as manufactured. The track will inspect and tech the motors as needed to prevent tampering. Any tampering will result in disqualification, loss of all points, $1000 fine and a one year suspension for the driver, car and car owner, so as to protect the integrity of the sealed motor option. Any repairs to the sealed motor must be authorized by the track and at an authorized repair center. Motors may be purchased from any GM dealer. Any bolts deemed conterfeit will be turned into GM which represents a patent infringements and is a serious crime and will be treated as such.               

5. All motors must have 1" plug on side of pan for inspection or be prepared to remove pan at any time. Sealed motors do not need the hole.

6. Engine must match body style except for sealed motor.

7. Maximum engine set back is 6" from the center of the upper ball joint and the center of the forward most spark plug hole.

8.Ignition: Crate Motors: Electronic type ignition system permitted as long as it is housed in a stock type housing and mounted in stock location,MSD type is preferred. Only one electronic ignition amplifier. No magnetos. 

   Ignition: Built Motors: Must use MSD6 or MSD6AL with 7000 RPM Chip installed. Must be mounted out of reach of driver but readily accessible to officials. Track will have their own chips and will swap them reguarly with any car they desire.                                      

Q. BRAKES:

1. Conventional steel rotor system only. Brakes must work on all 4 wheels.

R. EXHAUST:

1. Headers Must be typical 4 tube into collector maximum 3.5" collector maxmum 1.75" tube size. No Tri Y or merge type permitted. No stainless steel. Mufflers are highly recommended and will be mandatory in 2009. Recommended muffler is a Schoenfeld part #83535.

2. Exhaust may not point down to the ground, must be parallel to the track.

S. WHEELS:

1. Steel or aluminum only. Maximum width 14"

T. WEIGHT:

1. Built Motors minimum 2450 lbs. after race with driver  no allowance. Crate motors GM602 minimum 2300 lbs. after race with driver  no allowance. GM604 minimum 2350 lbs. after race with driver no allowance..

2. All added weight must be properly secured by a minimum of two (2) 1/2" diameter bolts and painted white.

U. SAFETY:

1. Aluminum or better racing seat with head rest required with a minimum of 5 point seat and shoulder belt system properly installed per manufacturers recommendation. Belts must be less than 3 years old.. Belts and seat must be securely bolted to frame and cage as required.

2. Nylon mesh window net is recommended but not required on drivers side.

3. Approved racing helmet required.

4.Driver MUST wear fire retarding suit, ( nomex highly recommended ) gloves, goggles or face shield. Fire resistant underwear and shoes and head and neck restraint are highly recommended.

5. All cars must have an approved fire extinguisher securely mounted in reach of driver. 5 lb. halon is highly recommended.

6. Battery not permitted to be mounted in drivers compartment.

7. All cars must have tow hooks front and back.

V. TIRES:

HOOSIER ONLY - MUST BE 12 / 1200 compound or harder except for left front which can be anything you want as long as it is a Hoosier.

W. MISCELLANEOUS:

1. No radios or 2 way communication permitted.

2. No adjustable components allowed in drivers compartment.

3. No mirrors permitted.

The rules and or regulations set forth herein are designed to provide for the orderly conduct of racing events at Roaring Knob Motorsports Complex LLC and to establish minimum acceptable requirements for such events. These rules shall govern the condition of all events, and by participating in these events, all participants are deemed to have complied with these rules.

NO EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED WARRANTY OF SAFETY SHALL RESULT FROM PUBLICATION OF OR COMPLIANCE WITH THESE RULES OR REGULATIONS. They are intended as a guide for the conduct of the sport and are in no way a guarantee against injury or death to a participant, spectator or official.

The Race Director shall be empowered to permit minor deviation from any of the specifications herein or impose any further restrictions that in his opinion do not alter the minimum acceptable requirements. NO EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED WARRANTY OF SAFETY SHALL RESULT FROM SUCH ALTERATION OF SPECIFICATIONS. Any interpretation or deviation of these rules is left to the discretion of the officials.
